before jeev left (when we first got together) there were a few times when i told him that if he wanted to date someone else while he was over there i'd be fine with it. (note: but there is a difference in dating and being someone's boyfriend/girlfriend) because i believe what princess said to me quite a while back, that if you got to go out with other people while you were together with someone, you get to know more people, you get to know how they are like, and there are two possibilities. one, you realise that no one can compare with the person you're together with. and it strengthens your belief that he/she is the one for you, and there's no one else you want to be with. but of course two, it could result in you 'jumping boat' (as my lovely 1H students put it)

but i guess it really depends on the person's personality as well. perhaps doing this might make one even more confused. it could also result in a lot of jealousy, insecurity, and might cause more problems in the end. especially so for a long distanced relationship.

but it all boils down to one word.
trust.
and perhaps one more word.
faith.
