i've been reading about Aristotle and his theoretical study on ethics and virtues. (surprise surprise?) Aristotle believed that "the satisfaction of desires and the acquisition of material goods are less important than the achievement of virtue. A happy person will exhibit a personality appropriately balanced between reasons and desires, with moderation characterizing all. And true happiness can therefore be attained only through the cultivation of the virtues that make a human life complete."

i find it hard to understand philosophy because there are so many philosophers and so many schools of thoughts it confuses me sometimes. and reading about philosophy is ten times (okay make that amilliontimes) more difficult than reading any other book (that i usually read that is). i take a longer time to absorb what i am reading, and perhaps that's the beauty of philosophy -- you read, slow down, and think.

I agree with Aristotle when it comes to moderation. too much and too little are always wrong; the right kind of action always lies in the mean. think about it. courage is a mean between the excess of rashness and the deficiency of cowardice. generosity is a mean between the excess of wastefulness and the deficiency of stinginess.

so does it mean now we should live life in moderation?

wonder what i was doing in gp class when we were touching on philosophy in class. haha.
